Fagron ESG progress in 2023

News 3 min read

We find it important to be transparent about our ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) targets and progress on realizing those targets. Last year we have, in a range of articles, discussed the different topics that we are working on:

Now that 2023 has ended and we have published our 2023 annual report, we would like to tell you more about the progress that we have made in 2023.

Our ESG targets

Below you can find an overview of all our most important measurable and quantitative ESG targets and our progress on those targets in 2023.

2023 Progress

We are proud to say that we have made (significant) progress on most of our ESG targets.

The percentage of renewable energy in all the electricity usage in our facilities has increased from 19.5% a year ago to 25% in one year. Our greenhouse gas intensity has decreased further and is now at -24% in comparison to 2019, and we believe that with our current efforts we are on our way to realizing our 2025 target of -30%. We do this by continuing to electrify our car fleet, and energy savings projects and installation of solar panels. In addition, we are making steady progress in waste separation, with plastic and paper being separated and recycled at more facilities than in 2021.

Fagron values its people. We have seen a solid rise in the percentage of people who have had an annual employee career development and performance discussion and are now at 97% of our employees. Unfortunately, we had one health & safety incident which led to the permanent injury of an employee. We are expanding our occupational health and safety efforts in 2024.

The percentage of women in senior management has increased from 27.6% in 2022 to 31.2% in 2023. We have almost reached our 33% target but will continue to run our female mentorship program in 2024.

Fagron is committed to taking responsibility in our supply chain and we are making efforts to ensure that more suppliers are accepting our Business Partner Code of Conduct. Currently 8% of our trade goods suppliers by spend have signed our Business Partner Code of Conduct. The same percentage has also set science-based carbon footprint targets for their scope 1 and 2 emissions.

In terms of good governance, we have increased our employees’ access to confidential counselors by training new confidential counselors in 2023. The percentage of employees with access to such counselors has risen from 39% in 2022 to 58% in 2023, which is a big step towards Fagron’s 2025 goal of 100%.

In our 2023 Annual Report that has been published in March, you can find much more information about our progress. All annual reports can be found on our website!
