As a global leader in pharmaceutical compounding, Fagron serves a vast network of customers across numerous countries. Uniquely positioned in the pharmaceutical value chain, our activities span from sourcing raw materials globally, including APIs (active pharmaceutical ingredients) and pharmaceutical excipients, to delivering personalized medicine through community and hospital pharmacies.
Building a responsible and sustainable value chain is of utmost importance for us, and essential to our ambition to delivering affordable, high-quality, and sustainable personalized medicine. Therefore, becoming a member of the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI) in October 2024, is an important step for Fagron. Becoming a member will help us with further establishing environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards with clear expectations for our suppliers and promoting responsible practices across the supply chain.
“By joining the PSCI community we can leverage a wealth of knowledge and resources that will help us set high standards for ESG practices across our supply chain.” –
Sanne Nusselder, Global ESG Officer at Fagron.
What does PSCI stand for?
The PSCI is the leading association for pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, advocating for responsible value chains through its Audit, Capability, and Projects initiatives. Formed as a non-profit in 2013, following a 2006 founding project by six members, the organization has significantly grown to 82 members, and counting. Together these companies focus on transparency and accountability while enhancing supplier capabilities and fostering collaboration.
What are the PSCI principles?
The PSCI Principles for Responsible Supply Chain Management articulate what the industry expects from its supply chain in five areas: ethics, labour and human rights, health & safety, environment, and governance & management. In each area, the Principles set out the relevant practices any business operating within the pharmaceutical supply chain is expected to uphold. All members commit to support and incorporate the Principles into their key supplier documents and agreements. Fagron has updated its Business Partner Code of Conduct to align with the PSCI principles in November 2024.
What are the benefits of joining forces with PSCI?
Joining the PSCI means becoming part of a community dedicated to responsible value chain practices in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, while simultaneously benefitting from and committing to:
- Sector collaboration: Joining a collaborative network, working to drive responsible supply chain practices.
- Learn from leaders: Developing knowledge, learning from sector experts.
- Improve efficiency: Access and contribute to a shared sustainability audit program, reducing audit duplication.
- Support suppliers: Using PSCI supplier resources to train suppliers in accordance with the PSCI Principles for Responsible Supply Chain Management.
- Enhance reputation: Becoming a recognized advocate of a responsible pharmaceutical and healthcare value chain.
What are the next steps for Fagron, as a PSCI member?
In 2025, we will develop an audit and monitoring plan aimed at those suppliers that are at risk of non-compliance with our Business Partner Code of Conduct, leveraging PSCI’s resources and expertise. We will also work on a standardized risk assessment framework and a correction plan to be used in case of non-compliance, reinforcing our commitment to both industry collaboration and continuous improvement.
“Fagron’s membership in PSCI reinforces our dedication to resilient supply chain management, upholding Fagron’s commitment to delivering sustainable, high-quality pharmaceutical products to our customers globally.” – Vera Bakker, COO at Fagron.
