European Commission bans MI in leave-on products

Tue, 09/20/2016

The European Commission (EC) announced the ban for the use of methylisothiazolinone (MI) in leave-on products as of 12 February 2017.

In 2013 the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) already concluded that 0.01% (100 ppm) MI in cosmetic products is not safe for consumers. For leave-on products no safe concentration of MI can be defined. This in combination with a dramatically increased incidence of MI induced allergies has led to the ban.

The ban of MI in leave-on products by the EC underlines the importance of ingredient safety. Fagron Advanced Derma vehicles do not contain methylisothiazolinone or other ingredients that can be potentially harmful for people’s health.
