What is Hydralazine?

Hydralazine is a drug. It has a direct vasodilatory effect, especially on the smallest arteries. This reduces vascular resistance and causes a decrease in elevated blood pressure.

Hydralazine is used in the treatment of hypertension in combination with other antihypertensive drugs, for example, beta-blockers and/or urinary agents (diuretics).

The adverse effects of Hydralazine

Like any medicine, this one can have side effects, although not everyone experiences them.

At the beginning of treatment or if too high a dose has been started, may occur:

  • accelerated heart rhythm
  • palpitations
  • sudden redness of the face and neck
  • headache
  • nausea

Less commonly reported are:

  • diarrhea
  • blood accumulation in the nose
  • excessive filling of the blood vessels of the conjunctiva of the eye
  • fluid accumulation
  • tremors
  • muscle spasm
  • numbness
  • dizziness
  • disturbance in the nerve impulse conduction
  • decreased blood pressure
  • complaints of chest pain
